Hun Tae Kim

Hi there! 👋

I’m Hun Tae, a master’s student in Computer Science at UC Santa Barbara.

I’m fascinated, and maybe a little preoccupied, by the nature of intelligence, whether it’s organic or synthetic. Right now, I’m mostly interested in Mechanistic Interpretability and agentic systems.

Outside of research, I’m deep into hard science fiction. I’m a big fan of SF writers like Ted Chiang and Greg Egan, and I love works such as Permutation City, Exhalation, and The Three-Body Problem. I’m also into films; Denis Villeneuve is my favorite director, especially Blade Runner 2049, Arrival, and the Dune series.

Other than that, I enjoy weight training, biking along the coast, and watching Formula 1 (Max fan). Lately, I’ve also been getting into running and surfing! 🏄‍♂️

On this blog, I share short notes on papers I’ve read and other topics I’m chewing on. Occasionally, I also write about life: reflections from books, sci-fi worlds, and whatever else is shaping how I think.
